Where the original idea for the Frome Spitfire Squadron came from was the odd report and not much photographic evidence that RAF recruits trained on bicycles with wings attached at the front. It may have been the Polish and Czechoslovakian pilots that trained more like this. This series of photos come from an article in life magazine, I assume from during he war, they look great, no prizes for which one is meant to be the enemy...
Logbook: A disparate group of RAF Spitfire pilots roaming the skies of Somerset and Wiltshire playing croquet, drinking Pimms, raising money (RAFBF), raising laughter and raising HELL! Don't approach them, but if you have to communicate with them, just say 'Fancy some tea and tiffin!' and they will be, literally eating out of your hands, saying 'Tally Ho!'.. Keep watching the skies, catch them at Frome Carnival, Frome Indie Market, Lacock at War.. Find us on Facebook: 'Frome Spitfire Squadron'
